Dear Room 112 Families, September 26, 2016 wk 4 issue 4
We are quickly getting into the swing of things. A couple of reminders: As the weather becomes cool and crisp, please make sure your child dresses appropriately for the weather each day! Children should come prepared to go outside every day. I recommend layers. Please consider paying the student fee of $85. This fee goes towards enriching your child’s curriculum. Several of you have expressed interest in paying in installments. If you would like to pay in installments, the first installment of $21 is due on Report Card pick – up. THIS WEEK IN: WORD STUDY Students started sorting activities throughout the week in their word study notebooks to prepare for their spelling test on Friday. Monday – Regular Sort, Tuesday – Speed Sort, Wednesday – Word Hunt, Thursday – Blind Sort, Friday – Glue Sort & Test. READING We are reading “Rainbow Fish.” Students will dig deeper into the text through each reading. We will discuss the meanings of the vocabulary words and identify the author’s purpose, theme, setting, characters and story parts in the text. Vocabulary: Ordinary, Glide, Wise, Glare, Amazed, Admire, Beyond, Emerge (Try using these words in your every day talk with your child) WRITING We will work on planning personal narratives and working with peers to revise and edit our writing. MATH In math we will do work with number stories, counting strategies, collecting/interpreting data and playing Roll to 50 to develop a strong number sense. SCIENCE We will launch Science with a discussion about “What is Science?” and “What do Scientists do?” We will get and explore our science notebooks.
