Dear Room 112 Families, October 19, 2015 wk 7
What a WOW! Week in Rm. 112 thanks to the parents and students! Students are in the swing of things. Parents came in to be recess coaches & lunch helpers, a parent donated a year’s worth subscription to Zoo Books, another came in and laminated / cut labels for the classroom, a parent printed color copies, another came to translate for native Chinese speakers to ensure they were following and understanding our morning routine, a parent lead the ELL reading group one day, and a parent managed the shopping for coupons earned with brain bucks last Friday. A couple reminders:

Dear Room 112 Families, October 5, 2015 I hope every family had a wonderful weekend! REMINDERS:
Homework I’m so proud to see completed homework consistently being returned to school. Your child will always have a home link for Math. For reading, your child will have a personalized spelling list to study along with some ideas on how to study them on a daily basis (This is optional. However, doing three out of nine activities and turning all three in on Fridays can earn your child a GREEN Brain Buck!) and a RAZ-Kids account to read books online. I will be following your child’s activity on their RAZ-Kids account. Information on accessing their account, how long to read, etc is in their take home folder. I do not see the need to be specific about sight words (write them 3x, write them in a sentence, etc) but if you would like me to be more specific with your child, please let me know. There are no general classroom sight words. All sight words lists (up to 5) will be differentiated weekly for your child’s needs. Breakfast @ school Please review the note being sent home with your child on Monday. In brief, we need to know if you want your child to receive a school breakfast in the morning. If so, please ensure they arrive by 8:40 a.m. and take a breakfast as they are walking in with their class. See note for additional details. Any questions, shoot me an email. Student Fee Please consider paying the student fee of $85. This fee goes towards enriching your child’s curriculum. If you would like to pay in installments, please see me. Absences Thank you for informing me ahead of time of planned absences via email. Please note, a handwritten note needs to be provided to the office in order for the absence to be considered “excused.” *This week in: READING We will continue to work on building our reading stamina. We have achieved 13 minutes and are working towards 20 minutes of reading to yourself in your reading nook. Also, we will continue to read books related to weather. WRITING Writer’s Workshop will be introduced. Our focus will be writing from the heart and mapping our writing. MATH We will work on being precise and counting up strategies. SCIENCE We will continue to look closely at the temperature, types of weather conditions and various clouds. SOCIAL STUDIES We will discuss our families as it relates to their history, present, and future. Please send in a picture of your child’s family, if you haven’t already.
