Well the weather has dipped but Mrs. Woodbury’s class is RISING!!!!! Our attendance for May is above 96%, our class is in 2nd place in raising money for the Walk-A-Thon, and students are turning in their field trip forms/money in record time! Whooohoooooo!!!! Reminders:
THIS WEEK IN: WORD STUDY Students will be doing sorting activities throughout the week in their word study notebooks to prepare for their spelling test on Friday. Monday- regular sort, Tuesday- Speed sort, Wednesday- Word Hunt, Thursday- Blind sort, Friday- Glue Sort & Test. READER’S WORKSHOP This week we will read Maya is Grumpy by Courtney Pippin-Mather. We will be coming back to this text each day as we read and learn something new from it during the week. We will discuss the meanings of the vocabulary words, identify the setting, characters and story parts in the text. VOCABULARY OF THE WEEK: grumpy, mood, snarled, giggle, escape WRITER’S WORKSHOP As our unit on poetry comes to a close, we will be revisiting our unit on persuasive writing. Be prepared for your child to be more vocal, provide reasons, and try to persuade you in different ways;) MATH We will begin Unit 9 this Wednesday. It is our last math unit. This unit focuses on two-digit addition and subtraction and a review. SCIENCE We are recording our observations on our wheat and lawn growth. Also, we will explore stems in depth and begin to look for animals for our classroom terrarium. SOCIAL STUDIES We continue to learn about families around the world. Flat Stanley will also make an appearance this week!
