A couple of reminders:
WORD STUDY Students started sorting activities throughout the week in their word study notebooks to prepare for their spelling test on Friday. Monday – Regular Sort, Tuesday – Speed Sort, Wednesday – Word Hunt, Thursday – Blind Sort, Friday – Glue Sort & Test. READER’S WORKSHOP This week we will read Harry the Dirty Dog. We will discuss the author’s purpose for writing the story, the story lesson and how pictures can help us answer questions that are not directly stated in the text. VOCABULARY OF THE WEEK: chute, furious, dash, scrub. WRITER’S WORKSHOP We will work on planning personal narratives. Students will begin to learn about BIG ideas (a birthday party) vs. small moment (when you blew out the candles and your hair caught on fire). MATH In math we will continue to learn about addition and subtraction strategies. We will play High Roller, Subtraction Bingo and learn combinations of 10 using 10 frames. SCIENCE Students are not only studying space, but observing and making discoveries about patterns in the sky. Students will be observing patterns of the sun, moon, and stars to describe patterns and predict them. SOCIAL STUDIES In Social Science we will discuss the various roles and responsibilities family members have.
