I hope every family had a wonderful weekend! REMINDERS: Open House is scheduled for this Thursday, September 22nd from 5pm-6pm. A PTA meeting will follow with snacks and drinks. I encourage you to attend both. Student Fee Please consider paying the student fee of $85. This fee goes towards enriching your child’s curriculum. If you would like to pay in installments, please see me. Snack For health reasons (several allergies in the class), I will not be providing snacks. In other words, snack is self-provided. I will not always have an emergency stash of snack available for those that did not bring a snack or ate it during lunch. We will make time for a daily snack at 1:45pm. If you cannot provide a snack, let me know so I can have a stash for your child. Parent Volunteers I welcome parents to volunteer at any capacity in or out of the classroom. Please let me know a day in advance if you would like to come into the classroom. CPS requests that you complete the Volunteer Process. You can locate the forms on the Ray School website under “Parents & Teachers” and then click on “Volunteer” or stop by the school office. Please complete this at your earliest convenience so that your volunteer opportunities are not limited and/or you cannot be a field trip chaperone. As the school year progresses, there will be more opportunities to work closely with students and less classroom prep. *This week in: READING Our book of the week is Enemy Pie by Derek Munson. We will study vocabulary and themes from the text. WRITING Writer’s Workshop will be introduced. Our focus will be on building our writing stamina and using tools in our writing folder to help us write. MATH We will explore different ways to organize data (tally marks, bar graphs, tables, etc). SCIENCE We will begin our guided inquiry into things we wonder about Science and about Earth & Space. SOCIAL STUDIES We will discuss different types of families and the people who make them up. *I continue to assess all 24 students in Reading behaviors, sight words (they will have different lists depending on their proficiency) and Math.
